Where do bedbugs come from?

Bedbugs are small insects and flat in size, this makes them hide very easily from view during the day when they are not active. They feed on human blood, mainly at night when people sleep. They hide in mattresses, bedding, furniture, carpets, and baseboard clutter. It is not however, necessary to locate a specimen to identify an infestation. Their excrements leave brown to black stains on the mattresses and linen, sometimes, blood stains may be spotted where the bugs have been accidentally crushed.

Bedbugs are most commonly transported within luggage, this allows them spread everywhere humans settle. You could also get them in matatus/buses, guest houses or lodges, when you visit someone whose house is infested and accidentally walk out with or one. Bedbugs infestation has become a menace in domestic setups, hotels, school and college dormitories, in transport industry, e.g. buses, cars, planes and other places of residence. Controlling bedbugs sometimes become hard because of their small size and propensity to hide within furniture, mattresses, and clothing. This may call for a professional approach by experienced exterminators.

One fertile female bedbug present in a friendly environment is an enough infestation. A healthy, blood-fed female bedbug can lay 200-500 healthy eggs during her lifetime and may from 2-5 eggs each day. In the event such as this, the possibility of infestation is very high and if enough action is not taken, it could be messy, especially when the eggs start to hatch.
